Design of a brake test bench and the experimental and numerical investigation of friction pairings

The goal of this contribution is to present the modular designed test bench with the advanced measurement system for friction systems. The design and construction process and the installation of the measurement system is the main part of this work. Another part of this work is the design of the tribometer for the validation of numerical models with well defined variables such as the normal force, the rotational speed and the friction pairs. The design of the combined brake, which consists of a friction and an eddy-current brake closed the gap to the electro mobility. The efficient numerical treatment of the decoupled thermomechanical problem is carried out by the finite element method, where the overall solution procedure and the algorithmic implementation of the steady-state algorithm is described. The practical applicability of the steady-state algorithm is adapted to the real experiments of brake actions. Finally, the particulate matter and the wear behaviour of a friction system is measured with a Fast Mobility Particle Sizer. Due to the designed test benches and the numerical implementation, the gap of numerical models and the validation with the experiments is closed.
